January 4th-SCAM ALERT-Big Scam-Little people-Listen!
So you work all your adult life. You retire, the two of you to live carefully on your savings, and however else you planned for these days of no earned wages every week.
Maybe it’s a pension plan social security, and return on investments, a few of the old standby’s that everybody bought into. You worry about the stock market, your grand children and the future of the country with all this economic turmoil.
You’re not rich. You’re not poor either. But your family is healthy; you are reasonable mobile and active for your age and you feel good about a lot of things, especially after Christmas and the fourth of July when the whole family manages to get together under one roof. Now, you wake up one morning, go out for the mail and see a big white envelope, no return address.
No alarm bells ring so you settle down to read what’s inside. It’s a sheaf of papers with a matter of fact note telling you how you can pay your insurance four times a year by simply sending them a check and they will pay it for you on time. Or you can send them a check for the entire year instead of the four payment.
Alarm bells are going off now. There’s no mention of any payee except them,
We keep reading the remaining pages. More alarm bells ring. Why? well, you can authorize an electronic transfer where you never have to write a check again.
All you have to do is give them your bank account numbers, your signature, your social security number and a few other details.
Well, now you know. Report these scumbags to the government as fast as you can and ring your friends to warn them, the sooner the better. These nerds prey on senior citizens and chances are they fool a lot of people into sending them money. Try to help your neighbors to avoid being victims.

December 28- take a look at men's gloves, (or women's gloves) where we list a new one for you, thanks to one of our fans. We'll have some more, thanks to all of you out there who write to us as soon as we get caught up after losing nearly two weeks, (ice storm state wide power failure and recovery). And yes, the ice storm hit us so there is the ICE STORM SPECIAL TO all our friends- Whew, a long nine days with ice,
no power from the power company, a faulty generator 1)spewing CO into
the house, 2)not burning all the propane, 3)and nearly starting a fire. Full story coming next week as we recover from
A Christmas, sort of scrabbled together with very little preparation.
|
22 December, Whew- Ice Storm, power out and nine days later, the lights finally came on: quiet in the woods with generators off and nothing but winter magic. The lake was half frozen and the sunset on Saturday, our first day with power, was breathtaking. Now we are trying to get ourselves organized again, not too pushed out of shape for Christmas with children and grandchioldren all arriving Christmas day.. We did buy two Mag-Lites, made in the USA, and happy to have them after the generator started spewing carbon monoxide into the house. The CO monitor thankfully awakened us at 4:30 in the morning. You can stand the mag lite flashlite up and it will reflect off the ceiling illuminating a good sized room. We'll have more next week about the whole ice storm and the power outage and hope the people still without power see it soon restored. In the meantime, Merry Christmas.

We separated the wine and beer pages, so if you are looking for regional beers and American nationally available beers, you can find the expanded page.
