CRAFTS INFORMATION-MAJOR SHOWS AND EVENTS
Reporting on a selected list of crafts fairs across the country, we include both general and specialized such as the miniature crafts highlighted by the fair in Phoenix, Cleveland, and Lehigh Valley. Some interesting information about the word "crafts" is summaraized from wikipedia: a craft brother is a fellow worker in a particular trade. A craft guild is an organized group of workers in the same trade. Some of the most beautiful buildings in Europe, large and small, are the halls in which these guilds met. One of the oldest guilds is the Masons, organized by the craftsmen who built the bridges and the cathedrals of stone and mortar in the middle ages. These craftsmen were much sought after by kings all over Europe. Two guilds still in existence in the UK are the Fellmongers of Richmond in Yorkshire and the Cutlers of Hallamshire in Sheffield. The fellmongers work in leather and the cutlers in cutlery. No matter which guild it was, they amintained the highest standards and guarded their craft secrets. Social and political soon became integral to the guilds.

American made Craft Supplies are listed here for you. Make your own quilt or buy one from Kim Morris whose quilts are featured on our home page. For miniatures, Greenleaf Dollhouses has a wonderful selection and we also have a crafts mini project with complete directions- a miniature bed with a half CD as a headboard, very clever indeed from Deb Roberts. Also a pictorial look at building a cold frame.
