| The all new PPV, Caprice 2011 |
|
|
| An all-new Chevrolet Caprice
Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) will join the ranks of law enforcement
departments across North America in 2011. It’s a modern, full-size,
rear-drive sedan that will offer both V-8 and V-6 engines, as well as a
host of specialized equipment and features.
Chevrolet made the announcement at the annual International Association
of Chiefs of Police convention, in Denver, Colorado. The Caprice PPV
will be available for ordering next year and will hit the streets in
early 2011.
“The new Chevrolet Caprice police
car is the right tool at the right time for law enforcement,” said Jim
Campbell, general manager for GM Fleet and Commercial Operations. “We
asked for a lot of feedback from our police customers, which helped us
develop a vehicle that is superior to the Crown Victoria in key areas.”
Vice President, Global Chevrolet Brand Brent
Dewar added, “Along with Impala and Tahoe, the Caprice PPV gives
agencies a greater range of choices for police and special service
vehicles that are all available from Chevrolet.”
Unlike other police cars on the market, the Caprice PPV is not based on
existing “civilian” passenger-car model sold in North America. It has
been developed in key areas specifically for police duty, containing
modern equipment and features:
- Powerful
6.0L V-8 with fuel-saving Active Fuel Management technology and E85
capability delivers expected best-in-class 0-60 acceleration (sub six
seconds) and top speed; a V-6 engine will also be offered, beginning in
the 2012 model year
- Optional front-seat-only side curtain air bags allows a full-width rear-seat barrier for greater officer safety
- Two trunk-mounted batteries, with one of them dedicated to powering various police equipment
-
Designed for five-passenger seating, meaning the upper-center section
of the dashboard can be used for equipment mounting without the concern
of air bag deployment interference
- Compatibility with in-dash touch-screen computer technology
-
Special front seats designed for the long-term comfort of officers
whose car is their effective office, including space that accommodates
the bulk of a typical equipment belt

Regarding the proposed sale of Saab to Koenigsegg, GM President and CEO Fritz Henderson had this to say: "We're obviously very disappointed with the decision to pull out of
the Saab purchase. Many
have worked tirelessly over the past several months to create a
sustainable plan for the future of Saab by selling the brand and its
manufacturing interests to Koenigsegg Group AB. Given the sudden change
in direction, we will take the next several days to assess the
situation and will advise on the next steps next week."

About General Motors: General Motors, one of the world’s
largest automakers, traces its roots back to 1908. With its global
headquarters in Detroit, GM employs 209,000 people in every major
region of the world and does business in some 140 countries. GM and
its strategic partners produce cars and trucks in 34 countries, and
sell and service these vehicles through the following brands: Buick,
Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, Opel, Vauxhall and
Wuling. GM’s largest national market is the United States, followed by
China, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, Russia and Germany. GM’s
OnStar subsidiary is the industry leader in vehicle safety, security
and information services. General Motors acquired operations from
General Motors Corporation on July 10, 2009, and references to prior
periods in this and other press materials refer to operations of the
old General Motors Corporation. More information on the new General
Motors can be found at www.gm.com.
As of September 30, GM CEO Henderson made the following announcement with regard to Saturn.
Penske Automotive Group (PAG)
has decided to terminate discussions with General Motors to acquire
Saturn. This is very disappointing news and comes after months of hard
work by hundreds of dedicated employees and Saturn retailers who tried
to make the new Saturn a reality. PAG’s announcement explained that
their decision was not based on interactions with GM or Saturn
retailers; rather it was because of the inability to source new
products beyond what it had asked GM to build on contract.
As a result of PAG’s decision, we will be winding down the Saturn brand
and dealership network, in accordance with the wind-down agreements
that Saturn dealers recently signed with GM. Pursuant to the terms of
those agreements, the wind down process will be determined and
communicated shortly.
Saturn customers and
owners will continue to be able to purchase and have their vehicles
serviced at Saturn retailers during this process. Once the wind down is
complete, Saturn owners will still be able to have their vehicles
serviced at other GM dealerships. We will be communicating with our
customers very soon to explain the next steps in this process.

| GM's 2010 Cobalt |
|
| Changes for the Cobalt lineup for 2010, include exterior and interior color revisions. What hasn’t changed, however, is its customer-focused package of choices, convenience and safety features that many other competitors can’t match – including Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity and an iPod-compatible USB port in the radio.

General Motors is increasing production at several North America assembly plants in response to increased sales. GM will add about 60,000 vehicles in the third and mainly the fourth quarter production forecast, ensuring a wide selection of high-quality, fuel efficient cars, crossovers and trucks for customers.
To help meet the increased demand, GM is adding shifts at CAMI, Ontario, Canada where the next generation Chevy Equinox and all-new GMC Terrain are built and Lordstown, Ohio where they build the Chevy Cobalt. This will bring approximately 1,350 UAW and CAW employees back to the assembly lines. The Chevy HHR and Colorado and the GMC Canyon are also experiencing increased demand.

Update for American Made cars from General Motors, August, 2009: Lordstown,Ohio Assembly plant- Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5; Orion, Michigan- Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 mid size cars. .
|
| American car maker GM announces that General Motors Company will invest $43 million in Brownstown Township,
Mich. to manufacture lithium-ion battery packs for the Chevrolet Volt
and other extended-range electric vehicles. It is the first lithium-ion
battery manufacturing plant in the U.S. operated by a major automaker,
and demonstrates GM’s commitment to deliver more fuel-efficient
vehicles to consumers.
The plant will provide
more than 100 advanced technology jobs and will be part of a wholly
owned subsidiary of General Motors called GM Subsystem Manufacturing
LLC. Local and state incentives, along with Recovery Act funding
announced last week by the U.S. Department of Energy, are helping to
make the facility possible.
The investment
includes renovation and lease costs for the 160,000-square-foot
landfill-free facility, new machinery and equipment, and special
tooling. With the exception of specialized battery machinery and
equipment, GM is reusing equipment from other GM facilities. Equipment
installation at the Brownstown site is under way and production will
start in the fourth quarter of 2010 to support the launch of the
Chevrolet Volt.
“Developing and producing
advanced batteries is a key step in GM’s journey to become the leader
in electric vehicles,” said Fritz Henderson, GM president and CEO.
“This state-of-the-art battery manufacturing site reinforces our
commitment to achieve that goal and to deliver clean, fuel-efficient
vehicles to our customers.”

DETROIT – Using cutting-edge technology, the 2010 Cadillac SRX is
launching with an advanced all-wheel-drive system (AWD) that delivers
best-in-class levels of driver control. The intelligent, active system
continuously distributes engine drive torque between the front and rear
axles, delivering optimum handling, stability and grip in all driving
conditions – from fast corners to slower curves, in dry or wet weather.
“The
2010 SRX will deliver excellent, balanced driving dynamics in all types
of weather,” said Bob Reuter, SRX global vehicle chief engineer. “The
all-wheel-drive system with electronic limited-slip effectively
transfers torque not only from front to rear, but also along the rear
axle. This system sets a new benchmark for all all-wheel-drive systems,
giving the driver control and confidence on any road surface.”
In
honing the integration and performance of the system, Cadillac
engineers completed more than 600,000 miles of testing in all weather
conditions across some of the most challenging roads in Europe, as well
as test tracks in Italy and Spain and the famed Nürburgring circuit in
Germany, where Cadillac has developed and validated new vehicle
features in recent years. The result is an active, all-wheel-drive
system specifically tuned for the SRX.

| From GM-the Cadillac SRX 2010 |
|
| To optimize traction at take-off, the Cadillac SRX 2010 system incorporates an innovative, pre-emptive engagement of the rear wheels. Unlike conventional all-wheel-drive systems, this system eliminates the need to detect front wheel slip before rear drive is activated and sets a new benchmark in all-wheel-drive performance.
