American made work benches come to us from John Zirpola offering sturdy ready to be assembled workbenches in a variety of sizes and finishes. He handcrafts them and will carve your name on it before he sends it off to you, almost too nice to be unseen in the garage or workshop.

The Canoga Cement Mixers have double action dump/tub locking handle which eliminates the need to pull two handles at the same time. They also offer a sled type steel foot plate at the bottom of the front stand which carries the weight of the mixer when it is not being towed and provides better support on soft ground. The front and rear edges of the plate are turned up so when towing a mixer, and you enter a driveway approach, if the foot plate happens to drag on the pavement, the sled type foot plate will not dig into the pavement as readily as a flat plate (less chance of damaging the pavement or the mixer). When relocating the mixer on the job site, it makes it easier to push or move the mixer a few inches or feet. Canoga mixers with torsion bar suspension have a spring steel axle and independent suspension for smoother movement over rough highways (less bounce to the mixer, a smoother feel for the driver and vehicle towing the mixer).

STOVE PIPES LEAKING FUMES-Not exactly what we like to write but it had to be said. We bought a stove with a gas fire, had it installed and turned it on, expecting to smell propane at the start-up because the instructions said there would be. The piping was black stove pipe running straight up to the ceiling, then up another story up to the roof. The only problem was, the propane smell never vanished. We called the installer, the local store that sold us the product; their technician came out, checked everything and said it would be ok. It wasn't. No matter what we did, even following the instructions of one engineer who came to give us a pre-winter check: Make some powdered orange drink and wipe it around the connections of the stove pipe. We did and then smelled first the orange drink and then the propane. Finally, we went back again to the local shop. They said they had never heard of anyone having that problem but why didn't we try duct tape. So we did. Well, wish us luck. We've had a couple of cold days where we needed the fire and amazingly it didn't smell. But let the buyer beware. If you buy a similar installation, get it in writing how it will be handled, that is the leaking propane fumes or stick with a wood fire.

As you can see, the stove pipe is exposed and the connections are being covered with silver colored duct tape. Hopefully, it will seal the spaces which were leaking propane fumes.
Unfortunately, the duct tape packaging is silent on exactly how much heat it can withstand but the label did say it was high temperature foil duct tape.We'll keep you posted as to how well it works as winter temperatures require more heating.

| Nov. 3 report: Great Result- No fumes, much better than the sugar fix from the soft drink powder which lasted only a few hours. We'll update you again next month as the cold weather really sets in. Temps here are low thirties overnight or high twenties for the last few weeks.
